About FUZEON
How Does FUZEON Work?
FUZEON is the first in a class of anti-HIV medicines known as fusion inhibitors. FUZEON fights HIV outside T cells (CD4) — blocking HIV before it can enter and infect healthy T cells. Other anti-HIV medications work inside T cells — after HIV has entered and infected the T cells and begun to replicate, or make copies of itself.

| Unlike other anti-HIV medicines, FUZEON works outside the T cell, before HIV can enter the cell and infect it. |

The unique way FUZEON works means that FUZEON, in combination with other anti-HIV medicines, may be an option for patients who have become resistant to some other anti-HIV medicines. As with other anti-HIV medicines, it is possible to develop resistance to FUZEON.
Important points about FUZEON:
- FUZEON is always used in combination with other anti-HIV medicines for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in patients with prior use of anti-retroviral (anti-HIV) therapy
- When used with other anti-HIV drugs, FUZEON can reduce the amount of HIV in the blood (viral load) and increase the number of T cells
- FUZEON is taken two times a day as an injection under the skin
